Why us?
Why GRRVP for your
Sockeye Salmon fishing trip?

For our self guided fishing trip:
If you taking a self guided trip, you will
have full access to our private shoreline.
The prime part of the
world famous Copper River Sockeye run on the
Gulkana
River starts roughly at the end of the King Salmon season and continues
until the end of August. Huge runs of these Copper River Sockeye pass
by our park and hold up in several holes along our 750 ft. of
shoreline. You can catch them directly from our banks. You will
also be able to fish for rainbow trout, steelhead and grayling.
Our location on the
Gulkana River keeps the river in front of our park free from other
fishermen.
If you are taking a guided Sockeye
Salmon fishing trip:
The map on the right shows the lower Gulkana
River as it runs along the Richardson Hwy. This map shows all the
access points between where the Gulkana River flows into the Copper
River and where Sourdough Creek enters the Gulkana. All guides who
drift fish on the Gulkana must launch from one of these access points.
Sourdough Campground has easy access to the river but it's 20 highway
miles and 30 river miles to the bridge where most trips end. That
is over 12 hours on the river! You can also come out at Mile 141.5
or Poplar Grove Creek but your must hike up a steep, quarter mile trail.
To enter the river at Mile 141.5 or Poplar
Grove, it is necessary to carry a raft down a steep, pot-holed, bug
infested quarter mile trail, and you, the client, will have to help
carry the fishing gear. The trip from Mile 141.5 to Poplar Grove
Creek includes both a hike down a steep quarter mile trail and then up a
steep quarter mile trail.
The trip from Poplar Grove Creek to Sailor's
Pit is very popular with our competition. It starts with a quarter
mile hike down a steep trail carrying fishing gear. This is a long
trip because they can not come out until Sailor's Pit.
The trip from Sailor's Pit to the bridge
is short, and since it is a public access point, all the holes from
there to the bridge have been plugged with people the last few
years. It should be much worse in 2008 because our RV Park is now
private and only our permit holders and our guests will be allowed to
use our launching ramp.
These are the access points our competition
must use for their fishing trips. You either must accept a very
long trip, or a short hike carrying fishing gear, or fish crowded holes.
Our guided Sockeye Salmon fishing trips leave
from our own launching ramp in our private RV Park allowing for very easy
access.
Our guided Sockeye Salmon fishing trips are
the very reasonable price of $195 per person,
two person minimum.
